Explore the untamed beauty and diverse wildlife of Sri Lanka's iconic sanctuary
Located in the southeastern region of Sri Lanka, Yala National Park is the country's most popular wildlife destination. Spanning over 979 square kilometers, it is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including the highest density of leopards in the world. Yala is also home to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and over 200 species of birds.
The best time to visit Yala National Park is from February to July when water levels are low, making it easier to spot wildlife around water sources. Early mornings and evenings are ideal for safaris.
Yala is approximately 300 kilometers from Colombo and can be reached by car or public transport. The nearest town is Tissamaharama, which serves as a base for park visitors.
